We’ve spent years living and working with hens everyday so we think we know a little about what makes them happy.  This has allowed us to develop ideal environments both inside and outside the hen house.

On each of the farms we feature sandpits for dustbathing, shelters as well as encouraging natural play areas with logs, foliage and cut branches. We like nothing more than seeing hens out “free ranging,” enjoying the trees and plentiful space that we provide, all to encourage hens to do what comes naturally.

At the happy egg co. we don’t agree with standing still, that’s why we continuously look into ways of improving our birds welfare and invest in more farms making more hens happy.

As well as our own experienced staff, we are also working alongside some clever clogs with a number of university projects in the pipeline, all looking at the behaviour of hens and what makes them happy.

We have a team of experienced fieldsmen, just like John (he’s in charge)… he likes nothing more than seeing our happy hens down on the farm.

With his team they visit every happy egg farm on a regular basis, usually every month, to check that our rigorous standards are being maintained. We make sure that not only are we exceeding our own happy egg standard, but that we also exceed those standards set by RSPCA Freedom Food In fact, we’ve even won a Good Egg Award from Compassion in World Farming for our continued welfare standards. And that’s not all… all of our eggs are stamped by with British Lion seal of approval, so you know that you always get the best quality eggs.

Although we are hen experts, we’re always happy to learn of new ways to improve what we do and share this with all our farmers. When it comes to hen welfare… our girls always come first, so our farms are always full of the happiest hens.

We don’t like to make a song and dance about it, but love and affection helps our hens lay the best quality eggs.
